Company Profile

AmaTech is a world leader in the volume production of Radio frequency identification (RFID) systems and components such as contactless smart cards, smart labels, tags and readers as well as applications software and system solutions. From humble beginnings, the company has expanded rapidly to become a global player in the RFID market within less than a decade. In addition to its headquarters in Pfronten, Southern Germany, AmaTech now has manufacturing facilities in Ireland, the USA and the Far East plus a global network of sales offices and distributors

Radio frequency identification (RFID) products are the eyes of today's new generation of automatic control systems. Transponders, or tags as they are commonly known as, are carried by people, animals or objects that need to be identified. When a tag comes within proximity of a reader, it is interrogated and its identity established. This information is then passed to a host computer for appropriate action to be taken by the system.

Situation

AmaTech Ireland had a requirement for a system to perform batch counting at its manufacturing facility in County Galway, Ireland. The solution would have to flexible enough to be able to monitor multiple production lines with different setups and shift patterns. Integration with 3rd party applications was also a requirement.

Solution

Measuresoft, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, provided a batch counting SCADA solution based on its ScadaPro suite of products running on the Microsoft Windows platform.

Working closely with AmaTech engineers, the system was configured to acquire data from the production machinery using an Alpha data acquisition hardware interfacing with the ScadaPro software.

AmaTech Ireland now have a production monitoring system that has the following features:

  • Flexible definition of shift patterns.
  • Hourly targets and totals.
  • Shift targets and totals.
  • Run, standby, error and off-time calculator.
  • Batch counting from multiple machines/lines.
  • Export of totals to a standard database (MS Access or MS SQL Server) at end of shift to allow for analysis.
  • Summary and detailed machine displays are presented on a large screen in the manufacturing area.
  • An unlimited number of users can access the data displays across the LAN.
  • Real-time alarm reporting.
Benefits
  • The ScadaPro solution provides AmaTech with very important production, quality, and maintenance information.
  • The data produced assists in the quality assurance process.
  • The data logging features provide an archive of results for traceability purposes.
  • The data produced aids machine preventative maintenance.
  • Leveraging the Microsoft platform and standard database technology provides a solution that is accessible throughout the corporate network.
  • Operator familiarity with the Windows user interface reduces training costs.
