Baker ProductionQuest – UK/Egypt

Company Profile

Baker ProductionQuest provide permanent monitoring solutions to oil and gas operators. Burullus Gas Company is a joint venture between British Gas, Edison Gas and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and operates the gas fields which are part West Delta Deep Marine Concession near Alexandria, Egypt.

Situation

Burullus required a data management system to provide data from the onshore facility near Alexandria to their petroleum engineers in Cairo. Data was being recorded by the Master Control Systems in Alexandria and manually copied by CD and delivered to the Cairo office.

Solution

Measuresoft, a Microsoft Certified Partner, designed and implemented a Data Management System based around Extrak. Extrak was used because its powerful facility for multiple independent date loggers. The system collects production data for 24 wells from 5 different fields from a Yokogawa Centum DCS system via OPC and stores production data in an Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database. The data is replicated to a server Cairo where it is interrogated daily to produce a summary of the days production. Production is summarized according to the choke rates which were operational on each well for each day of production. The summary calculations are specified in an Excel spreadsheet for extensibility and flexibility. The system also collects high frequency well test data in the same manner. Facilities to import the legacy Excel production and well test data file into the database were also provided. A full suite of trends which are accessible via Internet Explorer is provided within the Burullus corporate network for review of the data.

Benefits

The system provides automatic replication without administrator intervention.

Replication if fully tolerant of any short or long duration break in the communications links between the field facility and the headquarters office.

The system provides flexible trending of legacy and current raw and calculated data with the facility to annotate data with comments.

The system generates the required data for 3rd party reservoir analysis software.

The system allows the production allocation algorithms to be fully controlled by the petroleum engineers.

The system is fully extensible and has been designed to accommodate a further set of wells which are planned to come on stream in the near future.
